ALL PAINTS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL…
WHY CHOOSE BENJAMIN MOORE FOR YOUR PROJECTS
At Décor Taschereau, an independent company, we have been offering only Benjamin Moore application products by choice since our inception nearly 50 years ago.
Since its founding in 1883, Benjamin Moore products have never ceased to be among the best on the market. To most of us, an open can of paint may look like any other, but not to the chemists who formulate it. A typical batch of latex paint - the uncoloured paint to which colorants are added in the store - can contain 15 to 20 or more ingredients. Base paint ingredients can be grouped into four categories:
Pigments are finely ground particles that give paint its opacity and ability to "hide" the surface to which it is applied (Dyes are the tints added to the hardware to produce the exact color you want).
Resins (or binders) are the ingredients that hold the pigments and dyes in place once the paint has dried.
Solvents (also called carriers) are the liquids that carry the ingredients from the brush or roller to the wall. In latex paint, the main solvent is water; in oil paint, mainly mineral spirits. These evaporate as the paint dries.
Additives are the chemicals that affect everything from mold resistance to workability.
BETTER INGREDIENTS, BETTER PRODUCTS…
The predominant and most expensive pigment in paint is titanium dioxide, a very pure white powder with exceptional hiding qualities. High-quality paint contains a high percentage of this pigment. Other cheaper pigments, such as clay, silica and talcum, are found in expensive paints, but are more common in cheap paints. They are not as white and pure, and they are less good "hiding agents," which means you will have to apply more or thicker layers of paint to cover existing colors.
In the end, it's important to keep in mind that old saying: You always get what you pay for. The best paints will give you better coverage and a more durable finish. The cheaper the paint, the more coats you'll need to apply. The end result is little to no savings. Why is that? You will have to buy twice as many cans of paint and spend twice as much time applying them. Remember that your time is also worth something.
